Tom Brady Earning $10M Per Year Below Market Value

Oct 1, 2015 7:33 PM

Tom Brady has one of the most team-friendly contracts in the NFL due to a restructured contract in 2013 and a subsequent extension.

Before the renegotiation, Brady was scheduled to make $30 million through a couple of high salaries. After the renegotiation, that number became $33 million, consisting of a $30 million signing bonus (the last deferred payment of which was paid in February to the tune of $5 million) and salaries of $1 million for 2013 and $2 million for 2014. Thus, the Patriots got better cap flexibility due to the prorated bonus while Brady received significantly better cash flow and an extra $3 million to boot.

The deal added an extension with "out years" in 2015, 2016 and 2017 at salaries of $7 million, $8 million and $9 million respectively, which are low for a quarterback of Brady's caliber.

At the end of last season, there was a renegotiation to bring the salaries for those years up by $1 million per season.

Brady is earning roughly $10 million per year below his market value.

Kam Chancellor Ends Holdout, Returning To Seahawks

Sep 24, 2015 11:59 AM

Kam Chancellor will end his contract holdout to return to the Seattle Seahawks.

Chancellor missed all of training camp and the first two games of the season in hopes of restructuring his contract.

"Ima go help my teammates that are understanding of my position and the ones who aren't," Chancellor said in the text message. "God forgives all, why can't i? Time to help us get back to the big dance. I can address business after the season. Me and Marshawn started a mission 2 years ago. I can't let my Dawg down....Real talk."

Chancellor forfeited two game checks of $267,647. It is unclear whether the organization will waive Chancellor's fines for skipping training camp.

Owens is 41 and hasn't played in the NFL since the 2012 preseason.

“I’m not sure what the situation is,” Owens said. “My name may have come up in discussion as far as bringing me in. But again, a lot of people are going to factor in my age as far as why I can’t play.”

Owens said he feels he’d be a “viable” option for the team given a week or so to round into form.

Colts Likely To Go After Big Name Coach If Change Made

Sep 23, 2015 11:19 AM

Jim Irsay fears getting just one Super Bowl win with a generational quarterback as the Indianapolis Colts did with Peyton Manning. Irsay is determined not to repeat that path with Andrew Luck.

"But what seems increasingly undeniable is that Irsay -- scarred by past experiences -- will go looking to make changes if this season ends in the same way the last three did, with his team struggling to stand up physically to an elite opponent," wrote Albert Breer. "(He'd point out the team is 16-2 within the division and 17-13 out of the division over the past three seasons.) And word around the campfire is that if Irsay does make a coaching change, he might be ready to go big-game hunting, which could change the structure of the organization."
